Dr Eleftherios Tsiridis (DOB: 1968) is the Secretary General of the European Hip Society and Associate Professor at the Academic Orthopaedic Unit of Aristotle University Medical School, Hellas, and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London Medical School, London, UK (2010 to present day). He qualified in Medicine (MD) cum laude from Athens Medical School, Hellas, in 1992 and in Orthopaedics and Traumatology from University College London-affiliated hospitals, UK (2002). He holds an MSc (Orth) from UCL and a PhD from King’s College London on developing stem cell strategies for bone augmentation. He was fellowship-trained in Boston Medical Center in the laboratory of muscularskeletal research between 2003 and 2004 and thereafter fellowship-trained in Arthroplasty in Exeter, UK (2004-5). He practiced as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma surgeon and Senior Lecturer in Leeds University from 2005 to 2010. He is a full member of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRSC) and Fellow of The British Orthopaedic Association. He has published more than 120 peer-reviewed papers which attract more than 2,500 citations with an H-factor of 23. He has contributed ten book chapters in well-recognised surgical text books, including Gray’s Anatomy. He is a member of six international scientific societies and the recipient of the prestigious Onassis Scholarship, the Latta Research Fellowship and the Furlong Research Grant, totalling one million pounds for research. He currently supervises two PhD students and five MSc students, all approaching completion of their theses. His research interest lies in cell biology, stem cell research and a clinical application in skeletal regeneration. He has a busy clinical practice focussing primarily on lower limb reconstruction having published a number of clinical papers on joint arthroplasty and reconstructive techniques. He lectures regularly around the world and is invited this year to organise a symposium in Arthroplasty at the 14th EFORT Congress (the European Orthopaedic and Traumatology Congress) and also to speak at the 43rd Annual Advances in Arthroplasty event at Harvard Medical School.
