Wim SchreursLetter from the President, Dr B Willem Schreurs

Dear All,

We are proud to announce that the guest society at our upcoming congress in the Hague 20-22nd September 2018 will be the Argentinian Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (ACARO). We are really looking forward to welcoming them to our meeting – EHS will offer them the podium to present the view on hip orthopaedics from South America. There are a lot of connections between orthopaedic societies in South America and Europe, and this invitation is a confirmation of the lively contacts. In the next issue we will also confirm the symposia that will be part of our meeting.

As EHS, we have just seen what an invitation as a guest society can bring. As already announced in the previous newsletter, EHS was the guest society of the AAHKS meeting in Dallas. Luigi Zagra, our SciCom chairman, and I were impressed with the very high standard of presentations at this meeting.

The newest insights in Orthopaedics were presented in a very stimulating environment with a critical audience and vivid discussion. Very interesting was a session on the future of Orthopaedics with new digital tools that can help orthopaedics to deliver better care. There was also an award winning paper on local administration of antibiotics in obese patients.

Together with the Colombian Hip Society, we were recognized by AAHKS, as can be seen from our photo gallery of the event. Eduardo Garcia-Rey, the EHS guest fellow of AAHKS, reports on his month-long experience below. Please find also an introduction from Eleftherios Tsiridis to the MAST Course in Thessaloniki, co-organized by EHS, and the announcement of the WAC congress by Luigi Zagra. Finally, we have updated our Hip Meetings webpages with reports from Stanislav Bondarenko on his Kharkiv (Ukraine) congress and from Evert Smith on his Bristol (UK) meeting.

Best wishes,

Your EHS President, B Willem Schreurs

Report from EHS Guest Society Fellow at AAHKS, Eduardo Garcia-Rey

SPeek20171002_1015_webresDear Members,

The European Hip Society (EHS) and the Colombian Orthopaedic Society were the Guest Societies during the last American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) Meeting in Dallas, USA. As part of our cooperation, I have had the opportunity to complete the Visiting Fellowship organised for this year. For four weeks I attended two of the most prestigious Institutions and the aforementioned Meeting.

From the very beginning, the collaboration and communication between AAHKS, EHS and myself was excellent, so the organisation during the whole Fellowship was outstanding…
